Mill Street, Middletown, NY- Retrofit of old mill – Affordable Housing + Community Facility

For this project The Sisca Organization turned a dilapidated old mill into a sturdy, solid 50,000 sq. ft. structure that could house dozens of families in  42 housing units. The project entailed the repurposing of an historic mill building, and construction of a new building for new apartments and a new community facility -- all while preserving the historic exterior facade of the mill. The original old building was collapsing, so before any repurposing could take place, The The Sisca Organization had to erect structural steel on the outside of the mill to prevent it from moving. The second phase was to erect an entirely new structural steel skeleton system inside the mill to permanently stabilize the building, and to support a rooftop solar array, A glass breezeway was constructed to link the old with the new.
